Smasher.com Messagewatch tips

Seiko has discontinued the Messagewatch, and their paging service went offline on Dec 31, 1999, so my watch no longer functions as a beeper.

The only other pager-watch I know of is [The Timex Beepwear], but be warned that it only has a three-month battery life.

Messagewatch tips

  • If you return to your service area after being on the road and you want your watch to immediately search for a radio signal, hold down the "T" (time) button for 10 seconds. The "S" (signal) indicator will begin to flash, and your messagewatch will search for a new signal.

  • Your messagewatch will not receive pages while you are performing some operations on the watch, like deleting messages. However messages are broadcast twice, so this rarely makes you miss pages.

  • As some of the messagewatch packaging indicates, the watch will only receive pages when the band-clasp is closed.

  • If you're jealous of the Beepwear watch's nationwide coverage and full text display, comfort yourself with this thought- the Beepwear is not waterproof or even water resistant, and the battery life is estimated at 3 months.
